The history of Château Martinay

Château Martinay was originally built in 1763 by the Isnards family who were prominent figures in the Carpentras region. With deep roots in the Vaucluse area the family designed the chateau in keeping with the neoclassical trends of the time with symmetrical proportions, elegant facades, and a deep connection to the surrounding landscape.

The history of Chateau Martinay is layered and the estate suffered damage during the French Revolution, which saw various phases of transformation over the centuries. Most recently in 2018, it underwent a full renovation that respected its architectural heritage whilst introducing modern day comfort and understated luxury in its design.

Walking through its restored hallways you can sense both its grandeur and its soul. It’s a place with stories to tell and the warmth to welcome new ones.

What is the best season to marry at Château Martinay?

Spring (April–June)
Spring is a particularly romantic time at Château Martinay. The gardens are lush, the lavender begins to bloom, and the grounds come to life with colour and fragrance. Temperatures are comfortably mild which is ideal for outdoor ceremonies, and the soft lighting pairs beautifully with pastel florals and lighter palettes.

Summer (July–August)
Summer brings long daylight hours and golden Provencal sunsets that linger well into the evening. The pool becomes a feature in its own right which is the perfect setting for welcome drinks, post-wedding brunches, or even casual gatherings the next morning. With the warmer weather we recommend planning for shaded seating, plenty of hydration, and dinner timed to catch that beautiful golden hour.

Autumn (September–October)
Autumn transforms the estate with warm tones and a crispness in the air that feels cozy and inviting. It’s a wonderful season for rich colour schemes (think burgundy, ochre, and rust) and candlelit dinners that stretch into the evening. It also happens to coincide with wine harvest and truffle season which makes it an exceptional time to explore the local culinary scene.
